W. Tom Saul (or old Tom as he was known) was a keen active member, who went on to be one of the best officials and instructors the Surf Life Saving movement had, holding an Examiners Certificate as well as being a District Supervisor. In his days as a competitor Tom was a champion sculler, he won the Australian light weight sculling title in the early 1920’s.
He held the executive positions of President (1959-1963) and Club Captain (1436-1947) with South West Rocks SLSC. Tom’s achievements were recognised by being made a Club Life Member and the first Life Governor (1984). He was also awarded Life Member of Surf Life Saving Mid North Coast Branch (1966) and a Life Member of Surf Life Saving New South Wales (1966).
Tom was awarded a 50 Year Long Service Award and 50 Year National Patrol Service Award in 1985.
